The organization’s Board of Regents chose winners from a list of names submitted for consideration. This year’s laureates are Patricia Bronte, Joseph Gagliardo, Marshall Hartman, James Holderman, Lori Levin, George Mahoney, Nicholas Motherway, Michael Reagan, and Larry Rogers. Codilis and Associates is a law firm founded in 1977 that primarily serves the needs of mortgage lenders and services in Illinois. It is also active in the charitable sphere, with the Cara Program being among the numerous charities which Codilis & Associates supports. It has contributed sponsorship to a number of events held by the organization, including the 20th Anniversary Celebration of Hope in September 2011. The Cara Program has implemented a number of programs to help others, including the Cleanslate initiative. The Cleanslate initiative has a dual purpose. Not only does the program provide paid transitional jobs that help individuals develop skills that can be used to build careers, but it also serves to beautify local neighborhoods. The program has led to the collection of almost 3,000 tons of trash since its inception in 2009, renewing communities in the process and instilling a sense of pride in local residents. The initiative accepts donations, and Cleanslate states that for every dollar received, $5.02 is generated over five years through contributions to society and savings in public costs. Supporters are also offered the opportunity to hire Cleanslate interns who have received training through the program. In conjunction with their professional activities, many Codilis and Associates attorneys are involved with the international law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta. Every year, Phi Alpha Delta hosts a mock trial competition for teams of law school students across the United States. The competition takes place in Washington, DC, and allows 30 teams of four students each to argue as both prosecution and defense in multiple rounds for a pre-disclosed, fictitious case. Professional lawyers and judges volunteer to watch the teams compete and determine the winner. Phi Alpha Delta’s upcoming 2017 competition will take place from Thursday, February 23 through Sunday, February 26. Winners are announced for first through fourth place, and special honors are also awarded to law students who exhibit exceptional individual skill as prosecution, defense, witnesses, or advocates.
